Learners Licence
Steps

  1.  First things first, before you can even get into a car and start learning to drive, you have to get hold of a Provisional Licence (Learners).
  2. Complete an Application form obtainable at the Tax Office
  3. Submit completed Application form along with two passport size photographs to the Tax Office
  4. Pay the required fee and collect receipt
  5. A Provisional Licence (Learner’s Licence) will be issued to you for a period of six months
  6. Applicants should be at least 17 years of age on their last birthday
  7. Applicants should be able to read/write English

Drivers Licence
Steps

  1. Complete an Application form obtainable at the Tax Office
  2. Have this signed by a Justice of the Peace (J.P.)
  3. Pay the examination fee and collect your receipt
  4.  Submit the following to the Examination Depot:
    • Completed Application Form
    • The Driver’s Licence receipt
    • Three Passport size photographs
  5.  You will be given an appointment date for your written and driving tests

 After you have Passed the Test!
Steps

  1. The Examination Depot will prepare a Certificate of Competence for you
  2. This will be attached to your original Application Form and returned to you
  3. Submit these documents to the Tax Office
  4. Complete an Application Form for Driver’s Licence (Form F7)
  5. Pay the required fee and collect your receipt
  6. The receipt will indicate the period for which your licence is issued
  7. Have your picture taken and leave it, along with the completed Application Form at the Tax Office
  8. You will be notified by the Tax Office when your licence is ready
  9. Licences are given for 5 years and renewed on your birthday

Renewing my Drivers Licence
Steps

  1. Submit expired licence to the Tax Office
  2. Apply for a new licence by completing the prescribed form
  3. Pay the required fee
  4. Collect the licence the same day

Did you lose your Licence?
Steps

  1. Report the matter to the Police
  1. Obtain the relevant letter from the Police
  2. Take this letter to the Island Traffic Authority: 1 ½ Manhattan Road, Kingston 5
  3. The Island Traffic Authority will prepare a statement to the Collector of Taxes indicating whether or not there is any Judicial Endorsement (official entry by the court) on the licence. 
  4. Attend at the Tax Office where original licence was issued and apply for a substitute
  5. Pay required fee
